Update to the little bombsquad guy below. Doing a lot of revisions on him, still not happy entirely. The big lag on this guy is a big thanks to me not planning at all and just doodling instead of actively thinking while working on him. Learning a grip though working on him. The next one will be a finished piece, I promise!

Update
Between projects and portfolio tasks I squeeze in head paintings. For this piece, I took the opportunity to try painting a dark complexion for the skin…
… and here’s a progress gif I made with it, taking screenshots as I moved forward on the painting (Click the image below for a closer look). ![]()

BombSquad Suit… WIP
Some initial idea, still sorting out some kinks and you can kinda see the undersketch I had. This will probably come out different in the end after some more research. Check back again. :P

Sketches/Studies/Fun
Just some warm-up and experimental fun. Been sorting out how I can include half-tone in some illustrations but not just for valuing. More like a pattern or texture.
Here’s another one. My instructor brought up a really good point. That it’s not really clear what this one was trying to do, is she just dancing? selling something?
Good question to ask when illustrating or designing is…
“What’s the point of this as a whole?” “What’s the business end?”

edit* He shall be called... Ult
*WIP, those scrolls on his back you ask? they’re summoned out of their bodies XD. Each “vessel” can carry 3 BLACK SROLLS, that is summoned by their owner on the field

Soul’s Fire
Illustration inspired by a Magic the Gathering Card. Big THANK YOU to everyone that gave me feedback during the process (Sarah, Teddy, Le and Edgar). Nothin’ but love!
“An Avatar he sculpts of anger and flame.”
Alchemy Sketch (ballerina mode, ^^ lol). I MUST point out that the card meant for a fire elemental, NOT a demon/devil. So obviously, my sketch failed in the begining, so I took it to photoshop and edited it to fit the description better.

Troll Update in Color
Yay! Troll is finally in color stage. Glad to have some off time from work to enjoy some personal art fun. Can’t wait for this quarter to be over too, I have BIG plans ahead. Jumping between Photoshop and Painter with this.
Something to keep in mind… Because of time constraints in the industry, jumping between painting programs may be inefficient?

MonkeyKing WIP
It’s nice to work on art for fun. Scratch that, I love that adventure and discovery. Quick painting, started in Painter then dropped into Photoshop.
Keep your eyes peeled for updates :p

WorkWork – Digital Graphic Novel Style Commercial
eating up so much of my time, I barely have time to stay on top of school tasks let alone my portfolio goals. no sleep as well. it’s hard to stay positive on a project that had to be rushed, no time for research or preparatory work. apparently that’s normal for most according to some instructors. but 2 weeks to pump out a video commercial that includes pre-production and production AND post-production?
here’s a preview of a few panels on what me and my girlfriend are doing for work. i owe a lot of this to my girlfriend Sarah whose been a huge support and wonderful partner. I owe you beb’ !
yes, a ninja-raptor-guitar combo… you’ll see when it’s done :P

Troll UPDATE

Here's the lineart, not happy with some of the decisions I made for "design." Will probably fix it during the next phase.

Something I found
Digging around my folders, surprised I forgot about this.
I’m throwing it in here for remembrance sake. Keep it logged somewhere.

Note*
I should put all my work together in one spot.

Quick Finish
Finals are lame, so I took one of the sketches I made from Alchemy and finished it up in Photoshop. I don’t normally do fanarts but it looked like a chocobo, so why not.

What Finals?
Yea, I did more today, couldn’t resist. Can’t wait for this quarter to be over, take a week break then 2 quarters left until I graduate.
Gamma Squad – Artillery Team
Guard Dog…
Found a new toy! Airship Theme
Just stumbled upon this fun program, and it’s pretty sweet! Here’s a few thumbs I did in between finals. I couldn’t stay away, haha.
Thumbs to the left can be a scene and the ones on the right can be vehicles that run through them.
Thumbs of airships. The top right image is a possible emblem for their fleet. Can’t help but think about Firefly
Keeping with the airship theme, I decided to do a scene that depicted space/airships in a war. I plan on pushing other elements back to add depth and scale and keep the two prominent figures on the top left.

Into Finals again…
Long time no post :) . Well, it’s that time again, back into finals mode. So for now, here’s a couple of pieces I started a few weeks back. Hope to finish this right as soon as finals for my classes are over. I’m gonna try to make a habit to post more frequent.
Roughed in right now, still working on story as they were doodles to start with.
Troll Hunter: figuring out the costume, so I guess doing iterations would help :P I’ll post the results
Skeleton/Zombie: I can see a sorceror or necromancer archetype from this. This also needs some costume design and more backstory.
Can’t wait for the Concept Design Academy Workshop with Carlo Arellano, this will surely help me with what I’ve been struggling with for a while now.

Light armor like hide/leather, feather and bones are some of their primary materials.
